Chapter 4: Ike and Ginger

Olive and Betts discover part of the mansion's past. They learn about Vaughn McVee and his wife Virdia and Virdia's grandmother. The grandmother had died at the mansion; but nobody has ever found out the truth as to what happened to Vaughn and Virdia.
![]() 1"So, who is the fella we can talk too?" Betts asks Felix. | ![]() 2"His name's Ike. He's the lighthouse keeper at Clement Lighthouse," Felix answers. Betts demands that he take them to Ike, to which he agrees. |

![]() 3Felix drives to the lighthouse. Betts asks how he knows Ike, to which Felix says that "Everybody in Clement City knows Ike!" Betts retorts that she "sure didn't," to which Felix explains that Ike helped him get his first job in town, and had helped him find his apartment. | ![]() 4At the lighthouse, Ginger, Ike's wife, answers the door, happily greeting Felix. Felix tells her that Olive and Betts want to speak with Ike. |
![]() 5Ike warmly greets Felix. | ![]() 6Betts asks Ike what he knows about the mansion. He says that he knows "A little bit about it. Very unfortunate what transpired there." |
![]() 7Ike warns of the dangers of McVee Mansion, and Betts asks Ike who had built it. Ike shares that a famous actor had built the mansion for his new bride. | ![]() 8"Vaughn McVee...he married Miss Virdia Fuse when the mansion was being built," Ike announces. Olive asks if Vaughn had died in the mansion. Ike replies that nobody knows; all that is for certain is that Virdia's grandmother died at the mansion, and that Vaughn and Virdia were never seen again. A common theory as to what had happened was that Vaughn killed his wife and her grandmother, then took his own life. |
![]() 9Olive doubts this theory, and Ike adds that nobody could ever figure out a solid motive for the supposed crime. With that, Betts, Olive, and Felix leave, and Ike hands Felix an umbrella to stay dry in the rain. | ![]() 10They head out and away from the lighthouse. |
![]() 11The three quarrel a bit, with Felix stating that at least he's now finally done with Betts and Olive. | ![]() 12During the drive back to Felix's apartment, Betts and Olive make plans to return to the mansion. Felix offers once more to take them to the mansion, asking Olive in a more subdued manner if she had seen anything at the mansion. However he doesn't finish his question. |
![]() 13To Betts, Olive comments that Felix seems so sad. Betts suggests that he might feel better if they can make the mansion safer, adding, "We better wrap this thing up tomorrow. He's not going to help us forever." | ![]() 14Olive has her doubts. Betts reassures her. Olive thanks her for everything. |
![]() 15Betts thanks Olive, too. | ![]() 16Thanking Olive for allowing her to join her on this adventure, to be doing something important with someone who treats her kindly. And with that, both ladies head inside to get some sleep. |
