Olive returns to the lighthouse to ask Ginger and Ike where Felix took Betts. Ginger informs her that he took Betts to the hospital.

Olive then asks where Gilbert lives; Ike tells her that he lives near Kellie's Diner. With that information, Olive sets off to find him.

Olive locates Gilbert's house.

Gilbert answers the door; Olive recognizes him from Felix's record store. She asks if he knows anything about the mansion. Gilbert orders her to leave, lamenting that he gets "A few of you young'uns every year, pestering me about (McVee Mansion). When will it end? When I'm dead?"

Olive tells Gilbert the truth; that she can talk with ghosts and wants to end the suffering at the mansion.

Gilbert tries to deter Olive, but she doesn't leave.

Gilbert relents, inviting Olive inside, and promising to tell her everything he knows, stating that "I've never told anyone the truth."

He tells Olive that he loved Virdia, and begins his tale...
