Chapter 2: Felix

Betts and Olive come across a record store, and the grumpy owner of it: Felix Flatt, a mosquito who doesn't want anything to do with the mansion.
![]() 1The next morning, Betts enjoys breakfast, while a nervous Olive explains that ghosts are able to use energy--like a radio--to talk to the living. Betts comments that Olive knows "a lot about this stuff." | ![]() 2Olive responds, "No, not really. I haven't had much practice talking to ghosts." Betts asks if she is a psychic too, to which Olive says that she doesn't think so. Ghosts are able to manifest in front of anyone; it just takes more energy for them to show themselves to someone who isn't psychic. |

![]() 3Betts remarks that Olive has an amazing talent. Meanwhile, the two ladies pass by a record store. | ![]() 4As Olive passes by the window of the record store, the same ghost from Kellie's Diner materializes. Olive informs Betts that the ghost is inside the store, and Betts urges her to go in "as customers." |
![]() 5Inside the store, Betts reaches for a record, and accidently drops it. | ![]() 6The record shatters. Gilbert, who had been perusing through the store, scolds Betts and Olive. "You clumsy broads! You need to pay for that, you know." |
![]() 7Gilbert complains about the young folks of today as he leaves the store. A store worker, Lenny, angrily approaches the gals, telling Betts that she has to pay for the broken record. | ![]() 8Felix, the owner of the record store, intervenes. He leads Lenny, Betts, and Olive to the front counter. |
![]() 9While Felix is trying to figure out how many records were damaged, a radio sitting on the front counter sparks to life. | ![]() 10Olive sees the same ghost from Kellie's Diner; only Betts notices her tranced state. Lenny swings a broom at the radio, obliterating it, stammering that "It was going to set the place on fire with those sparks!" |
![]() 11Olive tells Betts that the ghost has told her its name. Lenny and Felix are taken aback at this. Betts asks a startled Felix if he or Lenny know the whereabouts of McVee Mansion. | ![]() 12Felix doesn't believe that Olive can see ghosts, and wants nothing to do with McVee Mansion. He kicks Betts and Olive out of his store. |
![]() 13Lenny hurries out of the store to check if they're all right. He tells them to not mention the mansion to Felix again, because "he lost somebody there." | ![]() 14Lenny further explains that folks in Clement City suspect Felix of being responsible for the disappearance of his friend at the mansion. |
![]() 15"But I know Felix. He's a good egg," Lenny adamantly states. "It sure isn't good for business though. Not many toons trust him anymore." Betts announces to Olive that she's going to ask Felix where the mansion is. Olive doesn't think he'll speak with them. Betts, however, isn't ready to give up. | ![]() 16Betts and Olive wait the rest of the day outside Felix's store. As night approaches, Betts asks Olive, "Are you scared?" |
![]() 17Olive answers that she is scared. Ghosts are like the living in some aspects, but "They're different, too. They can alter things in the physical realm," and are able to kill the living. Betts reminds Olive that this is why they have to find the mansion, to try to make it safe. Olive isn't sure that they can make the mansion a safe place. | ![]() 18Felix finally leaves his store. Betts stops him, telling Felix that they know about his friend; Felix scoffs, "Which one? I have so many friends." Betts explains to Felix that she and Olive just want to make the mansion safe, and that they need his help. |
![]() 19Felix isn't pleased that Lenny divulged about his friend to the gals. Betts again says that Olive can see ghosts, and Felix argues that he still doesn't believe that claim. | ![]() 20Felix adds, "If you want to get to the mansion, you're finding it on your own. I'm never going back." As he turns to leave, Olive reminds Betts that she knows the ghost's name. |
![]() 21Olives shares the name: "Dolores." Felix abruptly stops in his tracks, facing Olive and Betts again. | ![]() 22"Why would you say that?" Felix cries out. Olive apologizes as Felix angrily turns to leave again, but Betts begs him to reconsider. |
![]() 23Felix grumbles, "If I help you, will you leave me alone?" | ![]() 24Felix relents, allowing the gals to spend the night at his apartment. Felix tells them that he doesn't believe "This whole spectral communications thing you're trying to sell me." |
![]() 25"Doesn't matter if you do. All we need to know is where the mansion's at!" Betts responds. Felix warns them, "If anything happens to you saps, you only have yourself to blame!" |
